Here We Come Robots!

Thursday was the day we had to face the big bike to Bethlehem School. Yup! You guessed it, we looked a little stupid. I mean you don't see 30 kids biking along the roads every day of the week do you? When we eventually arrived at Bethlehem school after the few hiccups we had along the way we were ready to start. We were lead into the newly built hall that smelt like paint. First, before Juliette, Kade and I could use the computer software, we had to learn how to programme the actual NXT unit. We managed to succeed in this task. The next challenge was to try and make the robot start on 1 line, stop on the next and make a beeping sound. We managed to complete the task. Next we had to programme the robot to do a figure of 8 around two empty milk bottles. We didn't manage to do this as we ran out of time.

At morning tea time we played bull rush with some of the Year 6's. Time went by really fast and before we knew it we were back in the hall working on our forest floor plan. We wrote down the things that we thought we should include then set to work drawing our plan. Kade drew an amazing jail and Juliette drew some cool huts, aliens and paths. Now all we need to do is make the stuff in 3D.

Our time was up at Bethlehem for this week but I can't wait for next time. Oh no! Now it's time for the long bike back...

All by myself!!

Last Thursday Rm2 from O.I.S went to Bethlehem School to work with our Rm9 buddies on robots. We had to bike up all these hills and down the road untill finally, we reached our destination. "Ummm... Room 2, where are the robots?" Oops, we forgot to pack them. Thankfully, one of the parents was able to race back and get them. Eventually we were ready to start. Unlucky for me, my two buddies weren't at school so I was 'lonered'. I ended up going with Kendall and Sam's group. Our challenge was to programme the small NXT robot to go around an empty milk bottle. We managed to succeed after a little bit of trial and error. When it was morning tea time our class was climbing over the playground like ants. Some of the Bethlehem kids didn't seem to approve of this. Then it was time for the bike back to our school.
That was a great day and I can't wait untill next Thursday...
